Septic Conditions in New Braunfels

New Braunfels sits along the Balcones Escarpment, where the Hill Country meets the flatter lands to the east. West of town, the ground is generally rocky limestone where aerobic systems are common, while areas to the east have more clay soils, which can affect how well a drain field performs. The Comal and Guadalupe rivers run through the area, which makes good septic maintenance important for water quality.

New Braunfels has grown rapidly in recent years, and many new homes on acreage outside the city limits come with aerobic systems. If your home was built in the last two years, your installer's initial maintenance contract may be nearing its end, so plan for a renewal.

Septic Services in New Braunfels

Septic Tank Pumping

Solids build up in every tank. Pumping on a regular schedule, often every three to five years according to EPA guidance depending on tank size and household, helps protect the rest of your system. More on septic pumping.

Aerobic Maintenance Contracts

Texas rules for aerobic systems generally require an initial two-year maintenance contract with a new installation and ongoing maintenance after that, typically with inspections three times per year. A local provider can set up or renew a contract for your New Braunfels home. More on aerobic maintenance.

Permits and Records for New Braunfels Properties

Depending on your address, OSSF permits may be handled by Comal County or by Guadalupe County. New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) provides wastewater service to much of the city; you can check NBU's service-area map or your bill if you're unsure. Having your permit drawing on hand helps a technician locate your tank and understand your system before they arrive. If you're buying, ask the seller for the permit, maintenance contract, and recent inspection reports.

Anyone pumping and hauling septic waste in Texas should be registered with TCEQ, and system installers should be TCEQ-licensed. We encourage you to confirm a provider's credentials before you hire.
